MEET conference
On the 4th of May the 2nd MEET conference will be hosted by the University of Agder, will focus on Muslim communities in Europe, and will address two themes in particular:
Woman in Islam
Status of Muslims in Europe
The conference is free, and we will provide you with lunch and coffee. We are aware of that not everybody will be able to follow the program in English. For this reason, we will provide translation to Norwegian, Arabic and most likely two other languages.

Session A: Muslim Women in Europe What is the situation of and problems faced by Muslim women in Europe (both from their own communities and from wider society)? What approaches are being taken to promote rights and empowerment of Muslim women in Europe? – how effective are these?

Session B: Muslim Women’s Voices in the Democratic Process What is the role of Muslim women in politics (including civic activism) in Europe (and more widely in the Muslim world)? Why is Muslim women’s political participation important? What are the barriers to this and what can be done to promote Muslim women’s political participation?
Session C: Attacks against Muslims/Islam in Europe What is the situation of Muslims in Europe with regard to hate speech/attacks and Islamophobia? What has been happening in Malmo (Sweden) recently? What are the implications of this for the wider Nordic region and for the whole of Europe? How should Muslim communities and governments/municipal authorities/key stakeholders respond to such attacks?
